Pilgersdorf (Hungarian: Pergelin, Croatian: Pilištrof ) is a large village with 1648 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Burgenland in the district Oberpullendorf in Austria.

Geography

The municipality is located in Central Burgenland in Zöberntal between church reflected in the Hunchback world and curls house.

History

Before Christ's birth, the area was part of the Celtic kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the area of the Celtic hillfort castle on the Schwarzenbacher Castle Hill.

Later, under the Romans today Pilgersdorf then lay in the province of Pannonia.

Burgenland archaeologists found around 1980 in the area of the old school a small Roman cemetery dating from the 1st century after Christius. The place was first mentioned under the name " Brunnaron on Zöbernbach " in a deed of King Louis the German in 844. It bequeathed to the king his chancellor Dominicus a farm in Brunnaron on the border between the counties Ratpots and Rihheris. 860, the " Church of the Minigo " ( = Dominicus ) was mentioned. In the 10th century destroyed the invading Magyars from the east Brunnaron. From this time there are a few finds, a bronze wire ring with a glass bead and wall remains of a Romanesque church. In the 12th century, was founded by German colonists on the ruins of a new settlement and a large church ( 32x14 meters) built.

" Via magna, quae de villa Pylgrim venit ": the first written mention of the village dates back to the Pilgrims in 1225 under the name " Pylgrim " ( German: " Great road coming from the place Pylgrim "). 1289 the fortified town was destroyed in the Güssing feud by the troops of the Habsburg Duke Albrecht. At the beginning of the 14th century the parish church was built, which is dedicated to St. Giles. The parish was probably supervised by the Lockenhauser Franciscans. 1390 was the inauguration of the Kanizsay held as landlords of curls house and " Pergelim with its toll " is mentioned as a place that belonged to the manor house curls.

From 1447 to 1488 Pilgrim village was at the Pottendorfer, the Lords of Kirchschlag and Krumbach pledged. While the Turks besieged Güns, Pilgrim village was devastated in 1532.

From about 1570 to 1645 were the landlords and the population Protestants. At this time, the dead were buried around the ruins of the old church. The judge of Pilgersdorf also oversaw the new clearing settlements Kogl Lebenbrunn and Steinbach. 1597 the manorial mill is already known.

The place was in 1605 completely burned down by the Botchkay - Haiduks ( Turks and Tatars ), in 1608 only started 18 of 29 vassals to rebuild their houses. Today's large congregation was formed in 1971 from the merger of the municipalities Pilgersdorf, Bubendorf, German Gerisdorf, Salmannsdorf, Steinbach, Lebenbrunn and Kogl.

Demographics

Since the first census in 1869 in which 2,333 residents were counted, the population decreased steadily and reached as of 1 January 2010 with 1,642 inhabitants its all time low. Compared to 1869 has Pilgersdorf 2010 only 70 % of the population at that time. The negative population growth arises almost exclusively by the sharp decline in birth rates.

Policy

Mayor Ewald is a citizen of the People's Party.

The distribution of seats (21 seats) in the municipal council is 7 SPÖ and ÖVP 14 Freedom Party, the Greens and other lists have no mandates.
