Pocahontas is an American city in the U.S. state of Arkansas and is the main town, so also the administrative seat of Randolph County. After based on the census in 2000 projection for 2006 by the United States Census Bureau Pocahontas has 6,765 inhabitants.

Geography

Pocahontas has a total area of 19.5 km ², including 0.5 km ² water surface. The city is located on Black River in northeastern Arkansas.

Randolph County is adjacent to the state of Missouri. The road from Pocahontas to Missouri is therefore correspondingly short.

Education

The local school system consists of the following educational institutions:

  • Alma Spikes Elementary School ( elementary school )
  • M. D. Williams Intermediate School
  • Pocahontas Junior High School ( Grades 7-9)
  • Pocahontas High School (Grades 10-12)

In addition, Pocahontas is home to the Black River Technical College ( BRTC ). The mascot of the local schools is the " redskin " ( " Injun " ), this is a racially descriptive name for " Indians."
