Pontifical Anthem
Inno e Marcia Pontificale ( "Hymn and Pontifikalmarsch " ) was established in 1950 - on the occasion of the Holy Year - will be charged the national anthem of Vatican City. Inno was officially voiced anthem already on 24 December 1949. He replaced the old hymn of the Papal States, by Vitorino Hallmayr, the Gran Marcia Trionfale from the year 1857.
However, the Inno e Marcia Pontificale no national anthem is in the proper sense, but especially in its Latin version rather than hymn to the sovereign - the State of the Vatican City, the Pope - to look at. So it is not a national anthem, but a prince anthem about the nature of the earlier imperial Austrian national anthem.
The Latin text was written by Evaristo d' Anversa, the Italian text of Monsignor Antonio Allegra (1905-1969), the tune was by Charles Gounod (1818-1893) composed. The latter was already on April 11, 1869 in the presence of Pope Pius IX. first intoned, but could not replace the 81 years long Hallmayr anthem.
As far as is addressed in the text " Roma " is not a reference to the pope or his office, or even Peter Christ, but to the Roman Catholic Church world.
In 1993, a Latin version was performed under the title O Felix Roma for the first time publicly. While the wording Roma alma parens and the Italian version of Roma immortal lyrics are largely the same, it is at O Felix Roma to completely rework that places the pope as head of the church in the center. On October 16, 1993, it was first performed publicly O Felix Roma on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the inauguration of John Paul II by the orchestra of the Central German Radio (MDR ).
