Porsanger

Porsanger ( Northern Sami: Porsáŋgu; kvenisch and Finnish: Porsanki ) is a commune in the Norwegian province (county ) Finnmark. In the 4874 km ² large municipality of 3960 inhabitants ( as of March 31, 2013). The municipality borders the neighboring communities Kvalsund, Måsøy Nordkapp, Lebesby, Karasjok and Alta.

The most important place is Lakselv ( Sami: Leavdnja; Finnish: Lemmijoki ), where there is also the administrative center of the municipality. Named the municipality is named after the Porsangerfjord, which opens into the Norwegian Sea.

Since 1 January 2004 Porsanger has to live in the Norwegian, seeds and Kven, the first and only municipality in Norway three equivalent forms of the name. She is also the only officially trikulturelle and trilingual community in Norway.

Visitors who travel by land to the North Cape, must traverse the municipality Porsanger.
