Concept

In the series the Glokalkolorit the Portlander hipsters and the creative and alternative scene is portrayed in short skits and satirized. Since such scenes exist in any city in the Western Hemisphere and have many similarities due to its international orientation, the skits are understandable for people and exhilarating, do not live in Portland.

It is based on the web series ThunderAnt that was played and produced since about 2006 by Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen.

The main characters in Portlandia are Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen. They embody each variety Portlander, which are differentiated with makeup and acting work. In addition to the two come to a number of well known guest performers from Portland, such as Kyle MacLachlan, the mayor of the city.

Production

The production of the first season started in August 2010 and ended in September of that year. The budget for the first season was the U.S. dollar under a million.

Episode building

The episode usually begins with a skit that cited a particular TV format and irony in mind the theme of the single episode. This is followed by the opening credits, which is highlighted musically with Feel It All Around by Washed Out. Then the title story, which takes place in parts of narrative through the whole episode and pursues an action begins. In between are more sketches to see which have no direct relation to the cover story, but continue in an occasional series about the episodes out. The series as a whole does not follow chronologically progressive action but rather lined up state descriptions of the indie scene together, the sketches and cover stories are self-contained. The connection is established via its distinctive characters.

Before the penultimate sketch again there's a brief introduction. The final sketch is part of the title theme, and then the guy follows with the credits.
