Poul Schlüter

Poul Schlüter Holmskov ( born April 3, 1929 in Tønder ) is a Danish politician of the Conservatives. 1982 to 1993 he was Prime Minister.

Political career

Schlüter 1958 was elected People's Party in Kolding for state chairman of the youth organization of the Conservatives. From 1964 to 1994 he was a member of the Danish Parliament ( Folketing ). 1971-74 he was seconded to the Euro Europe. 1974-1977 he led the first time the chair of the then opposition Conservative People's Party. In 1981 he took over the presidency again. A year later he became Prime Minister. From both a post he was forced to resign in 1993. 1994 to 1999 he was Member of the European Parliament from 1994 to 1997 even its vice-president.

Private

Poul Schlüter comes from North Schleswig. In the 1950s, he studied law in Copenhagen and in 1960 admitted to the bar. On March 16, 1963, he married Majken Steen- Andersen. His second wife was the lawyer Lisbeth Povelsen that with only 44 years, died of cancer in 1988. On July 21, 1989, he married the ballet teacher Anne Marie Vessel.

Poul Schlüter's son Peter is also a member of the Conservative People's Party and represents them in the citizens of Copenhagen.
