Prague-East District

The Okres Praha- východ ( Prague-East District ) is located in the Central Bohemian Region. It extends over 755 km ² and consists of 110 municipalities.

The Okres Praha- východ belongs to Středočeský kraj around the capital, Prague. In the north the plain of Brandys is located in the south begin the hills of the Bohemian Massif.

In the district half live around 100,000 inhabitants, of which in the seven cities Brandys nad Labem - Stara Boleslav, Říčany, Čelákovice, Úvaly, Klecany, Odolena Voda and Mnichovice.

The history of industrialization in this area begins with the construction of the ring Hoffer hammer mill in Kamenice 1825. It was the beginning of the non-ferrous metal processing. In addition, mechanical engineering, food and wood processing industry developed. The largest employer is the aircraft manufacturer Aero Vodochody. In addition to industrial firms have located in the district also research institutes and because of the proximity to Prague well as retail chains ( Billa in Modletice, Plus discount in Radonice, Penny Market in Jirná, Mountfield in Mnichovice ) settled.

53 percent of the population are workers, of whom 22 per cent in industry and nearly 3 percent in agriculture. By offering buildable plots the number of residents, but also the standard of living rises. Thus, the gross wages with 18,594 crowns to Prague is the second highest in the Czech Republic. The unemployment rate is low at a rate of 3.8 percent.

The heavily cultivated area has only a few nature reserves. The most famous is Větrušická rokle with its rock formations on the right bank of the Vltava River.

Among the historical landmarks in the district include:

  • In Stara Boleslav, the Church of St. Wenceslas, built by Duke Břetislav,
  • In Brandys nad Labem Castle. It was built on the site of a former castle and until 1918 was owned by the Emperor Rudolf II and popular seat.
  • The castle ruins Jenštejn was acquired by Paul of Wlašim, father of the Prague archbishop Jan of Jenstejn, in the 14th century. After that, this branch of the family of Wlašim named after the castle of Jenstejn.
