Geographical location
Radenthein is located in the northeast of the Gegendtal Millstaetter lake at the foot of the Nock Mountains.

Neighboring communities
History
Radenthein was first mentioned in 1177 as " Villam Ratehtim cum capella" with a priest Hartmann. From the villages Döbriach and Kaning a foundation is suspected before around 1000 years. Radenthein and its surroundings belonged long time to pin Millstatt, where the Benedictines had until the 15th century.
Already for the end of the Middle Ages is to Radenthein a mining activity detectable. At the site of the present Magnesitwerks the first hammer mill was operated for iron processing, from the late 18th century used to furnaces.
In the accompanying Garnet Canyon garnets were mined. Garnets were mined on the Alpe Millstaetter to 1914 in a canyon along a creek in Kaninger Luckner ditch.
1904 magnesite was on the northeast side of the Millstaetter Alpe, in Globatschbachtal found. The foundation of the "Austro American Magnesite Company" (now part of RHI AG) had a doubling of the population between 1900 and 1910 and beyond, a permanent population growth result. According to 2001 census Radenthein has 6,620 inhabitants, of which 96.2 % are Austrian citizens. 62.7 % of the population are Roman Catholic, 28.1% for the Protestant Church, 1.1% are of Islamic faith and 0.3 % belong to the Orthodox Church. 7.2% of the inhabitants are without religious confession.

Traffic
By Radenthein leads the Millstaetter Straße (B 98). From it branches off the Kleinkirchheimer Straße (B 88), which leads over Bad Kleinkirchheim Reichenau.
Public transport is operated by the ÖBB -Postbus GmbH. On weekdays run periodically buses to the train stations in Spittal an der Drau and Villach. During the school days and the side line after Kaning is served with each course 5 pairs. In the night from Saturday to Sunday is also the possibility the night bus to 2 clock in the morning to Spittal or Villach and drive back.
In winter, a free ski bus goes from Dobriach to Bad Kleinkirchheim, which also holds in Radenthein.
Established businesses
Radenthein is known primarily for its existing since 1908 pit mine. The product name RADEX still used today consists of Radenthein and EXport. Until 1965, the Austro-American Magnesite AG (RHI AG today ) ran the degradation of the rock in the open pit, the so-called "break". Today the rock is made exclusively in underground tunnels. Coat of arms
Prior to the award of a coat of arms Radenthein led a miner characters in the seal.
