The section lying in southern Sudan is 248 km long and one lane. Whether he actually traveled, is not known.

Plans

There were plans to build a railway network and to combine it with the existing railway networks in Kenya and Uganda. Since 2004, a corresponding 4100 km long been proposed single-track railway line from the German entrepreneur Klaus Thormälen. It should - be placed based on standard gauge - waiving compatibility with all adjacent railway networks. Revenue from the oil business will serve as collateral for financing. An exact route is set. The first phase of 1000km would exclude at the Uganda Railway in Kenya and associations cities Rongai ( north-west of Nairobi ) to Juba in Southern Sudan. It was planned that at least you should go this leg until independence in operation.

Another project that has been discussed is to build a 1028 km long railway line along the White Nile from Juba to Pakwach where the track on the railway from Uganda would meet .. This project was amended by an agreement between the governments of Sudan and Uganda August 28, 2008 superseded, which provided for a 920 km long route from Wau to Juba on Gulu in Uganda.

Given the parlous state of the subsequent tracks in Uganda and Kenya, as well as the costs of the projects in relation to the poverty of South Sudan, it seems unlikely that they will soon be realized.
