Ramón Castro Jijón

Ramón Castro Jijón (* November 15, 1915 in Esmeraldas, † November 1, 1984 in Quito ) was an Ecuadorian Rear Admiral and, as such, of July 11, 1963 to March 29, 1966 chairman of the military junta, which, besides him from Luis Cabrera Seville Guillermo uncovering Posso and Marcos Gándara was.

Castro Jijón learned his military training in Valparaíso, Chile. As the leaders of the three sections of the army decided to overthrow the government of Carlos Julio Arosemena Monroy, Castro Jijón took the lead, as he was the oldest member of the junta. After several reforms, the return to democracy was scheduled for June 1966, which was prevented by increasing discontent and protests of citizens and violent repression of the military. So the president was handed over so he could convene a constituent assembly and democratic elections on 30 March 1966 in the presence of the former President Galo Plaza Lasso and Camilo Ponce Enríquez Clemente Yerovi.
