Raymond Berengar of Andria

Raimund Berengar VI. (* Probably in 1281, † 1307 ) was Count of Provence, Prince of Piedmont and Andria.

Ramon Berenguer was the fifth son of Charles II, King of Naples, and his wife Mary of Hungary. It was during a brief stay of his parents in Provence, where his father wanted to take command of a fleet, was born. His home is reflected in his name and that of his nurse, Adelasia of Aix, resist. He was known to be born after Robert of Anjou, and no document mentions him in the next few years in Naples, so that it can be assumed that he his childhood under the supervision of Guillaume de Manoir in the cities of Aix -en- Provence, Sisteron, Saint -Victor in Marseille and spent Barjols. From Sisteron from he sent and his two brothers Robert and Louis on May 2, 1286 letter from those in which they asked King Edward I of England for the release of her father.

By the Treaty of Canfranc from October 29, 1288 he and his two older brothers were asked as hostages in exchange for her father. Since Raimund Berengar was ill at the time, he was only brought on February 23, 1289 on the Iberian Peninsula, where he reunited with his brothers in Moncada on March 9. The three were treated according to their princely status and were surrounded himself with an entourage of about 100 young nobleman. Raimund invited the theologian Petrus Johannis Olivi to his house, but received only a regretful letter. In accordance with the provisions of the Treaty of Anagni, the three brothers were released on June 7, 1295.

Ramon Berenguer traveled to Naples and then followed his brother Louis to Rome. In 1297 he accompanied his brothers Philip I of Taranto and John of Durazzo to Jolanda of Aragon, daughter of King Peter III. to escort the bride and her brother Robert to Naples.

In December 1300 Raimund received the fief of Monte Sant'Angelo, Capaccio, Eboli, Isernia, Atri and Vieste, Altamura, Gravina, and the counties of Andria, as well as the castles Vairano, Lesina and Terra di Muro. The county Gravina he lost again in 1302. On December 13, 1304, he was appointed the Prince of Piedmont. Since 1307, however, Piedmont was owned by his brother, it is possible that this is merely a title. A little later he was appointed Vicar General of the Kingdom and in August 1305 to Großseneschall.

Raimund Berengar's share of the Neapolitan policy was limited. He fought in Sicily against Aragon in 1301 and gave the Knights Templar land near Gravina. In July 1304 he traveled again to Rome, in turn, to escort a bride for his brother Robert. This time it was Sancha, daughter of King James II of Mallorca. He himself married a little later Margaret, a daughter of Count Robert of Clermont, but died shortly after the wedding.
