RC Leipzig
The RC Leipzig ( officially: Rugby Club Leipzig eV) is a Leipzig rugby union sports club. Apart from the rugby football, volleyball, table tennis and aerobics. Currently, the RC Leipzig has around 200 members (as of December 2013). The club colors are blue and yellow. The association is a member of the Rugby Association Saxony and the German Rugby Federation.
Nationwide, the club is known for its rugby department, which is considered successful traveled in Central Germany. The first men's team plays in the Bundesliga since 2012. History
Prehistory
Rugby in Leipzig dates back to the 1950s, when several rugby departments were established. BSG Lok Leipzig -Wahren, DHfK Leipzig, Leipzig BSG restaurateur and the army sports club ASK Leipzig were four teams that formed during this time.
DHfK what the most successful team. The team won the 1954-1963 five championships, followed by locomotive with four. In the 1980s, only two rugby departments had survived. 2004-2008 - Early Years
Some players remained on the TSV, there to play touch rugby. A year later, ultimately a successful transition to SG LVB Leipzig -Connewitz took place, where the department is still today.
After the founding of the club grounds for a regular match and training operation had to be prepared. Since the space was not used for many years, some of the buildings and furnishings were not in good condition. This led ultimately to the fact that the old club pub was demolished due to disrepair. Another important issue was the lighting. As from the autumn, the players had to work in the dark to some extent, it was important that there was a functioning field illumination. The Board of Management Volker Plank stood strong in the early years under pressure. The club had but always laid the foundations for the sport with the use of leisure time.
Shortly after the founding of the regular game could start. Especially in the young worked on. The first successes of the new club were the 2nd place in Saxony at the German Championships of the national associations and the 1st place at the German Championship A- student in 2004. The association undertook with his children and young people traveling abroad for example to Toulouse in France and organized a German youth championship in 2005. The successful young talent was recognized by the German rugby youth. For this reason, an evaluation course of the German U17 national team took place in September of the foundation year. In the near future Leipzig youth players were nominated for these courses again and again.
The club celebrated in 2006 "80 Years - sports field Stahmeln ". On December 15, 1926, the sports field and a toboggan run was inaugurated in Stahmeln. Was built in the system of so-called emergency workers - a form of employment for unemployed former soldiers. This anniversary took the Rugby Club Leipzig as an occasion to celebrate a big party with all the members, friends and sponsors.
2009-2012 - way to Saxon top team
In the years 2009 and 2010, the club life has become increasingly normalized. Despite some problems in the club's management of the club was on a good foundation. This led to several successes such as 1st place of the Central German 7- League 2011, 1st in the NorthEast - 7s 2012 and the 2nd place in the Regionalliga Nord -Ost.
2012 to today - The first years in the Bundesliga
Through a league reform in 2012, the German Federal leagues were fundamentally changed. The RC Leipzig was able to ascend from the 3rd League / Regional in the first rugby league. With this reform, new doors were opened for the club. For one, the city of Leipzig promotes Bundesliga teams for the second, there are new opportunities for sponsors.
On September 1, 2012, the RC Leipzig denied the first Bundesliga game since its inception in 2003. RK 03 Berlin won 116:00. An attempt by the Leipzig was not achieved. On 31 August 2013, the RC Leipzig celebrated its 10th anniversary. To celebrate this anniversary was the founder and leader of the South African Rugby Academy ( Sharks Academy) Hans Scriba. Scriba came with the aim to Leipzig, the club and the means German rugby region to promote the long term. Symbols
Logo
The RC Leipzig has a long tradition. It shows the logo of the club with a lion and a rugby ball. The lion as a symbol for the city of Leipzig was chosen on purpose to show the home of connectedness and belonging to the city. The game and the training ground is located in Leipzig - Stahmeln at the Stahmelner street below the old B6. The club has a large association area that had to be reorganized after the founding at many points.
