Rebévelier

Rebévelier is a predominantly German -speaking municipality in the administrative district in the canton of Bern Bernese Jura in Switzerland. Nevertheless, the former German name Ruppert Wiler is no longer used today.

Geography

Rebévelier is located at 960 m above sea level. Level, 14 kilometers west of the town Moutier (air line). The farming village extends to a slightly inclined to the north slope of the Jura mountains west of Pichoux Gorge, high above the valley basin of Undervelier.

With 45 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Rebévelier is one of the smallest municipalities in the Bernese Jura. The population is about the same size to shares distributed to the two hamlets Rebévelier and Cerniers de Rebévelier. Of the residents 66.7 % are German and 33.3% French-speaking (as of 2000). Economy

Rebévelier still lives by agriculture, with dairy farming and cattle raising predominate. Outside the primary sector there are no jobs in the village.

Traffic

The community is located far away from the major thoroughfares. She can be reached by a spur road that branches off from the main road Bellelay Lajoux. History

His first mention is the village in 1181 under the name Robervilier. The territory of Rebévelier was part of the Bishopric of Basel. Between 1793 and 1815, the village belonged to France and was initially part of the département du Mont- Terrible, associated from 1800 with the Department of Haut -Rhin. By the decision of the Congress of Vienna, the place came in 1815 to the canton of Bern to the District Delémont. As a border town in the district Delémont Rebévelier be decided in the referendum of September 7, 1975 against the creation of the canton of Jura.
