Regina Jacobs

Regina Jacobs ( born August 28, 1963 in Los Angeles ) is a former American middle and long distance runner.

Since 1987 she dominated at the national level, notably in the 1500 meter run and took a total of 24 U.S. championship:

  • 800 m:
  • 1500 m: 1987, 1989, 1992, 1994-1997, 1999-2003
  • 5000 -meter run: 1988, 1989, 2000
  • Cross Country: 2001, 2002
  • In the hall: 1500 m: 1995, 2000, 2002, 2003
  • 1 miles: 1995, 2000, 2002
  • 3000 m: 1999, 2001, 2003

As a participant in major international events they initially achieved no success. At the World Athletics Championships 1987 in Rome and the 1988 Olympics in Seoul and 1992 Barcelona she divorced about 1500 m from the qualification.

That changed in the mid-1990s. At the World Indoor Championships in Barcelona in 1995 she won the title at the 1997 World Championships in Athens and 1999 in Seville each silver medal in the 1500 m at the World Indoor Championships in Maebashi in 1999 the bronze medal over 300 m.

At the age of 39 years she remained on February 2, 2003 in Boston as the first woman on earth with a 1500 -meter indoor race in under 4 minutes. With 3:59,98 min, they beat the 13 year old world record of the Romanian Doina Melinte by 0.29 seconds. Shortly thereafter she won at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham over the same distance.

In the same year she was tested positive for tetrahydrogestrinone (GHG ). Jacobs was a prominent customer of the company BALCO, which was at the center of the doping scandal that rocked the U.S. sports scene in the subsequent period. Rumors about their use of performance-enhancing substances were for a long time in circulation. In 2004 she was suspended for four years.

Regina Jacobs had a competition weight of 51 kg at a height of 1.68 m.
