Región Autónoma del Atlántico Norte

The Región Autónoma del Atlántico Norte ( RAAN short ) is one of two autonomous regions in Nicaragua. They are made as an administrative unit in addition to the 15 departments in Nicaragua. The two autonomous regions created by a new constitution in 1987 and the subsequent division of the department of Zelaya following.

The region's capital is Puerto Cabezas. The area is 32,195 km ² with a population of approximately 255,000 inhabitants ( 2006 calculation ), which corresponds to a population density of about 8 inhabitants / km ².

The Región Autónoma del Atlántico Norte is in turn divided into seven municipios:
