Regions of Namibia

The Republic of Namibia is since 8 August 2013, 14 (previously 13 ) administrative regions ( English: Regions of Namibia) divided. The regions have their own, limited only capable of acting regional administrations. For the first time the regions of Namibia have been established by proclamation on March 3, 1992.

Changes in the number, size and distribution of the Regions may make only the Delimitation Commission of Namibia due to Article 103 of the Constitution of Namibia.

Capital of Namibia is Windhoek.

Former regions

The Kavango Region was divided on 8 August 2013 two regions.

The geographical and typological division of the country, the regions are also often divided according to their location in South, Central West, Central Atlantic, North and Northeast regions. Geographical regions

In addition to these administrative regions, a more wide-ranging geographical division of Namibia in the following geographical regions has been established ( from south to north ):

  • Southern Namibia is a designation for the southern part of Namibia, in particular the administrative regions of Karas and (mostly ) Hardap.
