Reimerswaal (municipality)

Reimerswaal ( listen? / I ) is a municipality in the Dutch province of Zeeland.

Geography

The area of Reimerswaal is a strip of land that connects the peninsula of Zuid- Beveland with the mainland Netherlands; in the north, the Eastern Scheldt, in the south of the Westerschelde. The municipality covers an area of ​​243.70 km ² (of which 133.89 km ² water surface ), it has 21,860 inhabitants ( 1 January 2013). The Zeeland Reimerswaal also adjoins a community of North Brabant, namely Woensdrecht.

History

Reimerswaal had in the Middle Ages as a trading significance. This was due to the convenient location on the trade route to Antwerp, also was Reimerswaal starting point for ships to England, France and the Baltic ports. The city rights owned the place since 1374th

Economy and Transport

Importance as an economic sector has the shipbuilding in a shipyard in the district Hansweert.

The railway track Roosendaal - Vlissingen runs through the community. On the way to Flushing, there are three railway stations:

  • Station Krabbendijke and
  • Station Kruiningen - Yerseke.
