Ricardo Manuel Fernandes

Ricardo Manuel da Silva Fernandes ( born January 14, 1978 in Guimarães ), known as Ricardo Fernandes, a Portuguese footballer. The central defender has played 269 games in the Portuguese Primeira Liga and the Romanian League 1 Since January 2011 he is at Rio Ave FC under contract.

Career

The career of Ricardo Fernandes began in AD Fafe in the Segunda Divisão Portuguesa, the third- highest division of Portugal. After two years he was given the opportunity to switch to SC Salgueiros in the Super League in 1999. There he has developed in his first season first-team regular. After the descent 2002, he went to the club in the second division, but could not reach the direct resurgence.

In 2003, Fernandes Salgueiros left and moved back to Movers Moreirense FC in the Super League. After relegation in the first year he got at the end of the 2004/05 season from again. He then joined at the league rivals Nacional Funchal in Madeira. With the club surprisingly succeeded him in the next season's fifth place and the related qualification for the UEFA Cup, where he gained first experiences in the European Cup despite leaving in the first round.

In summer 2008, Fernandes left after three years of Funchal and joined the Romanian Liga 1 to Rapid Bucharest. There he was in the first season first-team regular, but then missed almost the entire first half of the 2009/10 season, won in the second round but back his place. In both years, the club narrowly missed qualifying for the Europa League. After he had played in the first round 2010/11 not a single game, Fernandes returned in January 2011 to Rio Ave FC in his Portuguese homeland.
