Richard Kingson

Richard Kingson ( born June 13, 1978 in Accra as Richard Paul Franck Kingston) is a Ghanaian football goalkeeper. In addition to the Ghanaian nationality Kingson also has Turkish citizenship and therefore is in its activities in Turkey no foreigner quota.

Career

In the club

Kingson began his career in Ghana at Great Olympics, for which he played from 1996 to 1998. His remaining career he played then, however, in Turkey, first in the 1998/99 season at Sakaryaspor, then for two years at Göztepe Izmir. In Antalyaspor, for whom he played from 2001 to 2002, he remained only one year, as well as for Elazigspor in the following season. 2003 to 2005 he played for Galatasaray before joining Ankaraspor. As of April 2007, he was loaned out to Hammarby IF. For the season 2007/ 08 he spent one year at Birmingham City. The following year he joined Wigan Athletic, where he acted as substitute goalkeeper. In September 2010, Kingson signed at FC Blackpool.

In the spring of 2014 Kingsn joined the Turkish second division Balikesirspor.

Since then he has played in Turkey, he also has a Turkish passport, where he played under the name Faruk Gursoy. His brother Laryea Kingston is midfielder.

In the National Team

Since 1996 Kingson has played a total of 88 caps for his country. He 's a record player of the national team of Ghana. In 2008, the goalkeeper scored his first goal for the national team.

In 1996 he took part in the Olympic Games for Ghana.

Confusion about his name

During the football World Cup in 2006, the player was called " Kingson " on his jersey after he was known as " Richard Kingston " before. The Ghanaian Association subsequently confirmed " Kingston " as the correct spelling. However, the goalkeeper decided to take over the misspelling of FIFA and henceforth act as " Kingson ".
