Richard Shulmistra

Richard Shulmistra ( born April 1, 1971 in Sudbury, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey goalie who from 1997 to 2004 for the New Jersey Devils and the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League and the polar bears Berlin, and the Adler Mannheim in the Deutsche Hockey League played.

Career

As a junior he played for the Miami University in Ohio in the NCAA. At this time he was selected in 1992 by the Quebec Nordiques in the NHL Supplemental Draft. While he was in the American Hockey League farm team for Québec, which played Cornwall Aces, the Nordiques moved to Denver.

After he came to no use in the NHL, where he had subsequently undertaken Patrick Roy, he signed as a free agent with the New Jersey Devils. But here stood with Martin Brodeur a not to be surmounted goalie in goal and his backup Mike Dunham was too big for him a number. Therefore, he brought it to only one game for the Devils and played most of the time back in the farm team for the Albany River Rats. It was followed by a trip to the International Hockey League to the Manitoba Moose.

For the season 1999/2000 he tried again in the Nantional Hockey League for the Florida Panthers, but even here there were five goalkeepers in the race and remained for him again just a game. Again he hoofed it through the Minor Leagues. His stations were in the AHL the Louisville Panthers, in the IHL Orlando Solar Bears, the Kansas City Blades and the Chicago Wolves and the Florida Everblades in the East Coast Hockey League.

In the summer of 2001 he moved to Germany and played in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga for the Polar Bears Berlin. After two years with the polar bear, he moved in 2003 to the Adler Mannheim, where he continued his active career ended in 2004.
