Rietz

Rietz is a municipality with 2142 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Imst ( district court Silz ) in Tirol ( Austria ).

Geographical Location

Rietz is located in the Upper Inn Valley, about 30 km west of Innsbruck, between Telfs and Imst. The territory extends from the Inn to the 2884 m high Rietzer Grießkogel in the Stubai Alps. Since the Stubai Alps are so high, the residents (depending on location three weeks up to three months ) have in Rietz in the winter time no sun.

The loosely built scattered village on the eastern border of the district of Imst is on the Murkegel of Rietzer Bach. To the north of the Inn is reported in the municipality of Rietz and Mieming a nature reserve.

History

The spelling of the name, which Illyrian origin, changed the course of history between the reed, Rietsch, Riecz, Ryetsch and Rietz. Is first mentioned Rietz in 1264. A separate " Gemain " formed Rietz, like a tax list stating as early as 1325. Until 1282 Rietz included in the County Hörtenberg, but since then the courts Petersberg near Silz.

Museum of Local History

In Rietz there is also a regional museum with a focus on Anthony of Padua and traditional life in Tyrol.

Economy and infrastructure

Agriculture is limited only possible because of the soil conditions, the community, therefore, focuses on sustainable tourism as well as to various businesses, including a regional headquarters of the retail chain Hofer. The larger part of the population commutes from their workplaces.

Rietz is accessible from exit Telfs -west of the Inn valley motorway A 12 and the Arlberg railway (S -Bahn Tyrol).
