Jerzens

Jerzens is a municipality with 1036 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Imst ( Imst district court ), Tyrol ( Austria ).

Geographical Location

Jerzens located in front Pitztal on the east side of South -west slope.

The municipality still include hamlets on either side of Pitze in the valley, as Ritzenried and Wiesle.

Below the pile village Jerzens extends in a sunny and sheltered from the wind, the highest maize growing area in North Tyrol.

History

The favorable conditions for agriculture and animal husbandry led probably to an early settlement. To pre-Roman Rhaetian population came from about 600 from the north end of advancing Baiuvarii immigrants. The then influential men of Stark Mountain and Stams Monastery founded several non-contiguous Schwaighöfe, from which developed the present hamlet over the centuries by division.

As more settlers also immigrated from the Swiss Valais Walser be accepted, have penetrated in the 13th and 14th centuries on the Piller Jerzens.

Economy

Until the mid-20th century agriculture and the crafts were to emigrate, the main source of income of the residents, where many residents were forced to hire themselves or abroad as seasonal workers. This changed with the onset of tourism, than in 1964 at Hochzeigerhaus a ski lift went into operation. Today the ski area high pointer has a 8-person gondola, two 6-seater chair lifts, 1 quad chair lift and five additional lifts with a total of 52 kilometers of slopes. Jerzens has to have about 2000 beds, sometimes in apartments, guesthouses and inns and even some top spa hotels. Tourist strongly influenced is primarily the hamlet Liß / Kaitanger.
