Riihimäki

The Riihimäki [ ri ː himæki ] is a city in southern Finland Tavastia Proper landscape, not far from the central cities of Helsinki and Tampere.

History

Archeological excavations show that the area was first settled after the ice age, already 9,000 years ago. Prehistoric findings also show that since the settlement was hardly interrupted. In order to secure the railway line as part of the defensive line through southern Finland, the Russian government built in 1910 a garrison in Riihimäki. Attractions
