Rohozná (Jihlava District)

Rohozná ( German Rohosna ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is 14 kilometers south-west of Jihlava and belongs to Okres Jihlava.

Geography

Rohozná is located on the right side of the same river Rohozná on the edge of the Natural Park Čeřínek in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. To the north rises the 714 m high Čertův hrádek and in the northeast the Přední skala (712 m).

Neighboring towns are Dolni Hutě in the north, and Hutě Cejle in the northeast, Dolni Cerekev in the east, Family and Spělov the southeast, Batelov in the south, and Bezděčín Zadnà poles in the southwest, Těšenov in the west and Kopaniny, Sedlíšťky and Šance in the northwest.

History

The first mention of Rohozná dates from the year 1209. The place had lived its greatest heyday in the 13th century by the silver mining and was at that time exclusively by Germans.

Rohozná was the largest and richest village of the rule Pelhřimov that sold Adam Říčanský Říčany in the 16th century to Jan Trček of Lipa. At the beginning of the 17th century a plague epidemic broke out, died almost all the inhabitants of the. The few survivors who fled to Pelhřimov, paid dearly for the citizens of the city for their accommodation and food, so that the town was in this way to extensive forest holdings, including the glass works and mines of Rohozná. Of these, the place never recovered.

Rohozná is currently one of the possible sites for a nuclear waste repository in the Czech Republic. A decision should be taken until 2025.
