Rolf Beilschmidt

Rolf Beilschmidt ( born August 8, 1953 in Jena, Gera district ) is a former German athlete who belonged in the 1970s, a world leader in the high jump.

Life

Beilschmidt began at age 15 with the high- jump training. From 1974 to 1979 he was East German champion. His sports highlight was winning for the GDR team in 1977 World Cup in Dusseldorf and at the European Cup in Helsinki. In the latter, he presented with 2.28 m and 2.31 m on August 13 DDR records. Rolf Beilschmidt jumped in the straddle - style and was one of the last major artists of this technique. For his achievements in 1977, he was elected in the same year the East German athlete of the year.

In 1978 he won the bronze medal at the European Championships in Prague. 1977 and 1978, he came second at the European Indoor Championships behind world record holder Vladimir Jaschtschenko. In 1980, he missed the Olympics due to a torn Achilles tendon. In 1981 he was once again DDR champion.

Rolf Beilschmidt competed for the SC Motor Jena and trained with Erich Drechsler ( father of Heike Drechsler ). At a size of 1.90 m, it had a competition weight of 80 kg. In the becoming public knowledge after the fall of documents to the state doping in the GDR was found in the doped athletes also the name of Beilschmidt. He stated in 2011 that took the means consciously.

He studied sports science and then became a sports official - first as director of the SC Motor Jena, in 1990 as Vice President of DTSB (DDR- Sports Federation ). From 1991 to 2001 he headed the Olympic Training Center Thuringia, he became chief executive of the State Sports Association Thuringia.
