Rolls-Royce 20/25

The Rolls -Royce 20/25 hp was a passenger car, the Rolls- Royce built from 1929 to 1936 as a successor to the 20 hp. The "small Rolls- Royce " was actually intended for customers who wanted to put yourself in control, but many vehicles were sold to customers with a chauffeur.

Construction

The above- controlled in-line six -cylinder engine similar to that of its predecessor, 20 hp; its displaced volume but was enlarged by drilling from 76 mm to 82 mm to 3699 cm ³, the stroke with 114 mm remained the same. The engine was ventilated by a single carburetor own production and the ignition was possible via magnetic or battery. The four-speed gearbox was interlocked with the motor and the gear lever was right. As of 1932, the third and fourth gears were synchronized.

The chassis with independent chassis had rigid front and rear axles, which were each suspended from longitudinal semi-elliptic leaf springs. All four wheels have been provided with drum brakes, which are actuated by a brake booster. The hand brake acted on separate drums on the rear axle. The famous Rolls- Royce radiator with triangular top had vertical slats that could be adjusted to control the engine cooling. Initially, the slats were manually adjusted with a lever on the dashboard, later versions had a control by thermostat.

Due to the larger engine, the top speed increased to 121 km / h, but many buyers could install heavy Pullman Limousine structures which - as expected - limited top speed.

In seven years, created 3827 pieces. 1936 replaced the larger 25/30 hp to 20/25 hp. Rolls- Royce also took advantage of the engine of the 20/25 hp as the basis for the Bentley 3 ½ Litre.

Body

Only the chassis and mechanics were made by Rolls- Royce. The bodies were built and placed by Stellmachern by the purchaser. Some of the most famous coachbuilders for Rolls- Royce chassis were Park Ward, Thrupp & Maberly, Mulliner and Hooper.
