Roman Catholic Diocese of Verapaz, Cobán

The Diocese of Verapaz Coban (Latin: Dioecesis verae Pacis ) is located in Guatemala Roman Catholic diocese based in Coban. It comprises the departments of Alta Verapaz and Baja Verapaz.

History

Pope Benedict XV. founded the Apostolic Vicariate of Verapaz and Petén on 27 July 1921 cession of territory of the Archdiocese of Guatemala. On 14 January 1935, was raised to the bishopric, and received its present name. A part of a territory it lost on 10 March 1951, the Apostolic Administration of El Petén.
