Rusovce

Rusovce ( German Karl Castle, Hungarian Oroszvár, Croatian Rosvar ) is located on the right side of the Danube on the border with Hungary, a southern district of Bratislava.

Description and History

The place is based on the from 1-4. Century AD existing Roman fort Gerulata. The place was in the 9th century, a Slavic population ( at least) in the 10th and 11th centuries, a Slovak-Hungarian population. He was mentioned in 1208 as terra Uruzwar Wruzvar for the first time. Since the 14th century, the German name of the place is busy, in the modern period (from the 16th century) Croatian- German population demonstrated the Croats were Germanized already at the end of the 19th century (so called Krobóti ).

The village was part of the Hungarian county of Wiesel castle and lies on the railway line Bratislava - Szombathely ( Bratislava - Szombathely, Hungary). In 1890 the place 1668 German and Magyar inhabitants.

From 1900 to 1945, the Charles Castle was the residence of the widowed Crown Princess of Austria - Hungary, Stephanie of Belgium, and her second husband Prince Elemér Lónyay.

By 15 October 1947, the place was then awarded together with the neighboring villages Čunovo and Jarovce by the Paris Peace Conference of Czechoslovakia, according to the wishes of the Czechoslovak delegation, the Pressburg bridgehead to enlarge strategic reasons. Rusovce is since 1 January 1972 a city district of Bratislava.
