Ryan Donk (2014)

Ryan Donk ( born March 30, 1986 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch football player. Since 2013, the defender is the Turkish first division club Kasımpaşa Istanbul under contract. His playing style is often compared to that of the former Dutch international's Jaap Stam.

Career

Association

His first professional season denied Donk in the 2005/06 season with the RKC Waalwijk. He graduated in seven games this season and directed the attention of some Dutch clubs like Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and AZ Alkmaar up. But even top European teams like FC Barcelona showed interest in him. The final award was then given the AZ, where Donk successor of Joris Mathijsen was. Although Alkmaar had committed the defensive player, but wanted him to borrow his former club RKC Waalwijk where he should gain more practical experience. Donk resisted this idea and wanted to make the new task. First, mainly on the bench, he surprised the AZ- makers, especially in the second half of the season 2006/07. Third place was occupied in his first year with the Red and Whites. Although he in his second season in Alkmaar more games completed, than last year, Donk was awarded for the 2008/ 09 season in England at West Bromwich Albion. For the season 2009/10 he left Alkmaar and finally moved to FC Bruges.

In the summer of 2013, he joined the Turkish Süper Lig on Kasımpaşa Istanbul.

National

In summer 2007 he was appointed Foppe de Haan in the Dutch squad for the U-21 European Championship in the Netherlands. In the first two games against the selection of Israel and Portugal Donk was in the starting lineup. With the first two victories, the team qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games and the semi-finals of the European Championship. The semi-final against England (1:1 aet ) was 13-12 won on penalties. Donk was the only Dutch player who had not taken part in the penalty shootout. After the game Donk shows a T-shirt with the inscription " Dit is voor jou toernooi, ik hou van je. " ( German: "This tournament is dedicated to you I love you. "), which was intended for his sister, who was involved during the tournament in a car accident. The final was won against Serbia 4-1 and the Netherlands were the second time U - 21 European Championship.
