Saint-Eustache (Haute-Savoie)

Saint- Eustache is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Saint- Eustache is located at 750 m above sea level. M., about 12 km south of the town of Annecy (air line). The farming village extends into a valley in the northern part of the massif of the Wallows, near the Lac d' Annecy, on a ridge between the Laudon and a right side creek.

The area of ​​10.54 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Wallows. The central area is occupied by a valley that is oriented in a north-south direction. This valley is drained by Laudon north to the Lac d' Annecy. From the surrounding slopes of the stream receives several short tributaries. To the west the municipality area extends over a densely wooded hillside on the anticline Semnoz and up to the highest peak, the Cret de Chatillon ( with 1699 meters above sea level. M. the highest elevation of Saint- Eustache ). To the east of the valley rises the steep ridge of the Roc des Bœufs ( up to 1560 m above sea level. M. ).

At Saint- Eustache addition to the actual center also includes several hamlets settlements and farmsteads, including:

  • Patérier (760 m above sea level. M. ) on a terrace above Saint- Jorioz
  • Puget (790 m above sea level. M. ) on a terrace above Saint- Jorioz
  • La Magne (840 m above sea level. M. ) at the foot of the Roc des Bœufs
  • Le Cruet (750 m above sea level. M. ) in a Seitentälchen of Laudon at the western foot of the Roc des Bœufs
  • La Pierre ( 900 m above sea level. M. ) on the western slope of the Roc des Bœufs

Neighboring municipalities of Saint- Eustache Saint- Jorioz are in the north, Entrevernes to the east, La Chapelle -Saint -Maurice and Leschaux in the south and Viuz la Chiésaz in the West.

History

Saint- Eustache is named after the Martyr Eustace. In the Middle Ages, the town belonged to the rule Duingt. Area changes occurred in 1866, when the former hamlet of La Chapelle- Blanche separated from Saint- Eustache and was elevated to the independent municipality of La Chapelle -Saint -Maurice. In the same year La Magne was spun off from Saint- Jorioz and assigned to Saint- Eustache.

Attractions

Built in the Gothic Revival style village church of Saint- Eustache was inaugurated in 1866. Get the ruins of the Château Tour du Vieux, which belonged to a house built in the 12th century castle.

Population

With 480 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Saint- Eustache is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still 525 residents counted in Saint- Eustache ). Since the early 1970s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded again.

Economy and infrastructure

Saint- Eustache was well into the 20th century, a predominantly coined by farming village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. Meanwhile, Saint- Eustache is a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area, particularly in Annecy their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares of a link road that leads from Saint- Jorioz according to La Chapelle -Saint -Maurice.
