Salies-du-Salat

Salies- du-Salat is a known for its thermal springs municipality with 1936 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haute- Garonne in the Midi-Pyrénées region in southern France. It is the capital of the canton of the same name.

Location

Salies- du-Salat is located on the north side of the Pyrenees, just 300 meters above sea level. inst on the west bank of the river salad. The place is about 77 km ( driving distance ) south-west of Toulouse; the next largest city, Saint- Gaudens, located about 25 km to the west.

Demographics

In the first census in France in 1793, the city had 621 inhabitants; the maximum population reached Salies in 1975.

History

The hot springs were already known in Roman times under the name of sale salus, but have so far been made no archaeological finds. In the Middle Ages the village belonged partly to the possession of the Counts of Comminges. In 1958, the City of Salies Salies - du-Salat has been renamed.

Attractions

The place has no significant sights.
