Saint-Plancard

Saint- Plancard is a commune with 371 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haute -Garonne of the Région Midi -Pyrénées. The inhabitants of Saint- Plancardais call themselves.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Comminges, about 15 km northeast of Saint- Gaudens on the banks of the Sava.

History

In the vicinity of Saint- Plancard there was the ancient Lugdunum Convenarum. On some dedications from there the name of the pre-Celtic God Sutugius was discovered.

In ancient times there was a Gallo- Roman temple. Its stones were later used for the location in the cemetery Romanesque chapel of Saint -Jean -le- Vigne. The co-founder of modern archeology, Georges Fouet ( * 1922, † 1993), Chairman of the Société des Études du Comminges, is the discoverer of pre-Romanesque frescoes in this chapel.

Tourism

On the banks of the Sava La Prade, one built by the community recreational area is located with shaded areas for pick Niki and trout fishing.
