Bachas

Bachas is a commune in the Haute- Garonne in the Midi-Pyrénées region. It belongs to the district of Saint- Gaudens, the canton of Aurignacian and the Local Government Association, Canton d' Aurignacian.

Geography

The 59 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) scoring Bachas community located in the historic province of Comminges, about 17 kilometers north of Saint- Martory and 57 kilometers south-west of Toulouse at the Louge, a tributary of the Garonne. Neighboring communities of Bachas are

  • Samouillan in the north,
  • Basse Terre to the east and south,
  • Alan in the southwest and
  • Benque in the West.

History

In the area around Bachas many Roman ceramics, mosaic tiles and religious objects were found, suggesting a settlement in Gallo- Roman times. From the 13th century came Bachas under the suzerainty of the bishops of Comminges. This dependence continues until the French Revolution. In the 17th century one third of the lands belonged to three families, while 57 small farmers shared the remaining 40 acres. 1790 for the first time the mayor was elected. Starting in 1886, compulsory education in force since 1882 was enforced in Bachas.
