Sansha

Sansha (三 沙市Chinese, Pinyin Sansha Shì ) is the third prefecture-level city of China's Hainan Province. It was formed July 24, 2012 from the " office of the Xisha, Nansha and Zhongsha Islands ", a semi- official special area of China, which was then assimilated to the county level. After Haikou, Sanya and Zhoushan Sansha is the fourth prefecture-level city in China, which is exclusively on islands. The land and sea areas of the city are disputed territory with very different in detail territorial claims of various countries (Republic of China, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei ). The PRC exercises de facto only a part of the administrative control of the islands. Sansha has a land area of only 13 square kilometers on a lake has an area of over 2 million km ² and consists nominally of three island groups, the Xisha, Nansha and Zhongsha Islands. Of 444 persons resident population 242 people have reported their primary residence in Sansha (2010). The Municipal People's Government has its headquarters on Yongxing Dao. Administrative Divisions

The prefecture-level city Sansha has so far not established a county level. At the community level Sansha are subject to a labor and management committee and two so-called " hypothetical large communities " (虚拟 镇). A third ( Yongxing Dao永兴 岛 虚拟 镇) has already been disbanded and its four villages and a population community of the city government under the direct authority. This Sansha is the only prefecture-level city in China, which is assumed in part, directly the village level, ie in the two levels of government were skipped. Sansha is divided into:

  • Meiji village (美 济 村), on Meiji Jiao;

Control

  • The claims of the People's Republic and the Republic of China refer to all islands of all three island groups. Both tolerate the de facto control of individual islands or island groups by the other side.
  • The Xisha Islands and Zhongsha be entirely under the control of the People's Republic of China.
  • The Xisha and the Nansha Islands are completely claimed by Vietnam.
  • Huangyan Dao, the only significant collection of Zhongsha islands above sea level (about 2 ha area at low tide, good 3 m at high tide ) is claimed by the Philippines.
  • The People's Republic of China controls nine of the more than 100 Nansha Islands (including Meiji Jiao ), the Republic of China, two ( including the largest, Taiping Dao ).
  • The Philippines, Malaysia and Brunei each claim a part of the Nansha Islands. Except for Brunei, all parties also exert control over some islands.
