This gives a population density of 16.7 inh. / Km ².

History

Santo Amaro is the youngest municipality in the district Sousel. In the church records of the town is noted in 1708 as a small village of the district Veiros. By the end of the 18th century, the city remained a loose collection of individual houses, which adopted contours of an organic village until the beginning of the 19th century. With resolution of the circle Veiros 1855 Santo Amaro came to the circle fronteira to belong to Sousel since 1932. Between 1933 and 1936 experienced a significant surge in development Santo Amaro, with the arrival of electric light, the establishment of a post of its own distribution, a health center and a school.

Monuments

In addition to the train station and a stone cross, the local church is a listed building. The Igreja de Santo Amaro Paroquial (also Igreja de Santo Amaro ) was originally built in the 15th century, before extensive alterations were made ​​to it in the 20th century.

Traffic

The community was a stop on the railway line Linha do Leste until the CP passenger traffic in 2012 stopped on the track.

The national road N372 connects the village with the 8.5 km westerly county town Sousel and with the 6.5- km to the east extending IP2 (also European route E 802).
