Seedorf, Uri

Seedorf is a municipality in the canton of Uri in Switzerland.

Geography

Seedorf is located at the eastern foot of the Gitschen the bottom of the Urner Reuss Valley on the southern shore of Lake Uri ( an arm of Lake Lucerne ).

Bloss 5.4% of the community are built-up area. Also, the agricultural area is modest, with a share of 19.2 %. The majority of the community area is covered by forest and woodland ( 40.6 %) or non-productive area ( waters and mountains; 34.8 %).

Seedorf is bordered to the north by Lake Lucerne, on the northeast by Flüelen, to the east of Altdorf, to the south and to the west by ATTINGHAUSEN Isenthal.

Population

The population grew 1860-1900 - with a slight fall in 1888 - by almost half ( from 1860 to 1900: 47.9 %). In the following decade, there was an equally sharp decline in population, then in the 1910s to a standstill. Since then, the population nearly quadrupled (1920-2005: 385.2 %). The growth was interrupted only in the 1990s when the population stagnated.

Languages

The population speaks a high- Alemannic dialect. At the last census in 2000 gave 97.22 % German, 1.26% Italian, and 0.33 % Serbo-Croatian as the main language.

Religions - faiths

The population was formerly full member of the Roman Catholic Church. The confessional relations in 2000 still show the original structure. 1367 people were Catholic ( 90.59 %). There were 5.63% Evangelical Protestant Christians and 1.86 % non-religious. 18 people (1.19 %) did not respond to their creed.

Origin - Nationality

From the end of 2005 1587 residents were 1531 ( 96.47 %), Swiss nationals. The immigrants originate from southern Europe ( Italy), Central Europe ( Germany and the Netherlands) as well as from the successor states of Yugoslavia. At the 2000 census, 1454 people ( 96.36 %) were Swiss citizens; it possessed 24 people dual citizenship.

Legislature

The local council is the legislative body. They shall meet at least once a year.

Executive

The executive branch is the seven-member council. He is a part-time working. Current mayor is Andrew Bilger (2009).

Economy

In 2005 there were 21 farms that offered 77 people work. Industrial employees working in 20 workplaces 156 services in 34 farms 119 persons. Of the economically active in 2000 852 people were working Seedorf 199 ( 23.36 %) in their own community. Overall, the place offered 385 jobs, of which 199 ( 51.69 %) were occupied by locals.

The 653 commuters do their work mostly in other municipalities of the canton of Uri. Among 298 persons in Altdorf, 77 in Shatt village, 49 in Flüelen, 32 and 27 in Bourguillon in Erstfeld. Most important places of work outside the canton of Schwyz were the municipalities, Stans and the city of Lucerne. In addition, there were 186 cross-border commuters. These came mainly from Altdorf ( 36 persons), Schattdorf (24) ATTINGHAUSEN (23) Bürglen UR (22) Erstfeld (21) and Flüelen ( 18).
