Sergei Vasilyevich Avdeev (Russian: Сергей Васильевич Авдеев; * January 1, 1956 Chapayevsk, Kuibyshev Oblast, Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian cosmonaut.

Avdeev is married and has two children. His hobbies include nuclear physics, sports and games. He is also a radio amateur and has the callsign RV3DW.

Training

Avdeev graduated in 1979 from the Moscow Physical Engineering Institute of Engineering Physics. From 1979 to 1987 he worked as an engineer for NPO Energia. He was selected on 26 March 1987 as a cosmonaut for the Energia - engineering group 9 and received his basic training from December 1987 to July 1989. Space flights

Sergei Avdeev held from 1999 the record for the longest time spent in space with a total time 747.59 days. This sum he reached with three stays on the Russian space station Mir.
