Sergio Casal

Sergio Casal Martínez ( born September 8, 1962 in Barcelona ) is a former Spanish tennis player, who celebrated his success primarily in doubles.

Life

Casal 1981 professional tennis player. He won his first ATP doubles title in 1983. Overall, he won 47 doubles tournaments, mostly with his compatriot Emilio Sánchez, in the individual, however, he could only win a tournament.

During his career, he won three Grand Slam tournaments; 1988 U.S. Open and 1990 French Open in doubles, as well as with Raffaella Reggi the U.S. Open in 1986 at the Mixed. Its highest position on the world tennis rankings, he reached in 1985 with number 31 in the individual as well as 3rd place in doubles.

In the years 1985 and 1987, he was able to beat Boris Becker in the Davis Cup encounters between Germany and Spain in the respective individual. So he suggested once the still virtually unknown in March 1985 Boris Becker and then in March 1987 the reigning two-time Wimbledon champion Boris Becker. Together with Emilio Sánchez, he won the silver medal in doubles at the 1988 Olympic Games. In 1992, he won the Spanish team to the World Team Championship in Dusseldorf.

In 1995 he ended his tennis career.
