Sheila Simon

Sheila J. Simon ( born March 13, 1961) is an American politician. Since 2011 she is Deputy Governor of the State of Illinois.

Career

Sheila Simon is the daughter of former U.S. Senator and Vice- Governor of Illinois, Paul Simon. In 1983 she graduated from Wittenberg University in Ohio. After a subsequent law degree from the Georgetown University in Washington DC and its admission as a lawyer, she began to practice in this profession. She worked in a team in a clinic, where it came to legal issues. Between 1987 and 1992 she worked for the Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation. From 1994 to 1998 she was Deputy District Attorney in Jackson County. She also was a member between 2000 and 2010 the Faculty of Law Southern Illinois University. From 1998 to 2000 she was one of the legal representatives of this university. Politically, she joined the Democratic Party. Between 2003 and 2007, she sat in the council of their residence Carbondale.

In 2010, Simon was elected to the side of Pat Quinn as Vice- Governor of Illinois. This office she has held since January 10, 2011. She is Deputy Governor. In 2014, she no longer wants to compete as Deputy Governor. Instead, it aims at the Office of the State Comptroller. Regardless, currently in Illinois a discussion underway to abolish the office of lieutenant governor for the next legislative session, which ends in 2019.

Since 1987 she is married to the professor Perry Knop, with whom she has two daughters.
