Sherwood Dixon

John Sherwood Dixon ( born June 19, 1896 in Dixon, Illinois, † May 17, 1973 ) was an American politician. Between 1949 and 1953 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Illinois.

Career

About the youth and education of Sherwood Dixon nothing is handed down. It was during the First World War soldier in the U.S. Armed Forces and was a member of the National Guard of Illinois. During the Second World War, he also served in the United States Army. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. In 1938 he sat in the State Board of his party. In the years 1940, 1952 and 1956 he was a delegate or substitute a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions relevant.

1948 Dixon was elected to the side of Adlai Stevenson for Lieutenant Governor of Illinois. This post he held between January 1949 and January 12, 1953 10. Yet he was assistant to the governor. In 1952 he ran unsuccessfully for the governorship of his state. He died on 17 May 1973 in his hometown of Dixon.
