Shulamit Aloni

Shulamit Aloni (Hebrew שולמית אלוני; born November 29, 1928 in Tel Aviv, † January 24, 2014 in Kfar Shmaryahu ) was an Israeli lawyer, human rights politician, writer and politician.

Life

Shulamit Aloni was born in 1928 in Tel Aviv. Her parents, who came from Poland, fought during the Second World War in the British Army. She was a member of the Haganah Hashomer Hatzair and the. After graduating from high school Shulamit Aloni was a member of the Israeli army and fought in the Revolutionary War. Then she was committed to children and worked as a teacher. She also studied law and economics in order to become a lawyer. In 1959, Aloni member of the Labor Party and from 1965 it was Members of Knesset. After she had fallen out with the party leadership of the Labour Party, she founded the Ratz party, which received three mandates for the Knesset, and served as Minister without office area. 1977 split the Ratz and its presence in parliament decreased, but in 1991, Ratz, Mapam and Shinui united to the Meretz party and received 12 seats in parliament. Aloni was then the Office of the Minister of Education, but was forced after one year term of office to resign. Finally, she moved in 1996 retired from politics.

Aloni was awarded the Israel Prize. In 1998 she was awarded the Emil- Grünzweig Human Rights Award for her life's work.
