Eliyahu Sasson

Eliahu Sasson (Hebrew אליהו ששון; * 1902 in Damascus, † October 8, 1978 ) was an Israeli politician and diplomat.

Sasson studied at the Université Saint -Joseph in Beirut. In 1927 he emigrated to the British Mandate of Palestine. From 1950 to 1952 he was the Israeli ambassador to Turkey. After that Sasson was 1953-1960 Ambassador to Italy, and finally from 1960 to 1961 Ambassador to Switzerland.

In 1961 he returned to Israel and was appointed by Prime Minister David Ben- Gurion to the Postmaster General. In the parliamentary elections in 1967 Sasson was elected to the Knesset. His cabinet post he held until January 1967 when he was minister of police. In 1969 his re-election to the Knesset. However, in the newly formed government, he held no ministerial posts. Sasson belonged to the Knesset until 1974.

His son Moshe Sasson was also active in the diplomatic service.
