Elimelekh Rimalt

Elimelech - Shimon Rimalt (Hebrew אלימלך - שמעון רימלט; born 1 November 1907 in Bochnia, Lesser Poland, † 5 November 1987) was a Zionist activist and Israeli politician.

Life

Rimalt attended a cheder, a yeshiva and a Hebrew high school in Cracow. While living in Poland, he was one of the founders of the Hebrew Bnei Akiva youth movement, named after Rabbi Akiba. He continued his studies at the Rabbinical Seminary in Vienna continued and earned a PhD in philosophy from the University of Vienna, where he was chairman of the Zionist student group. In 1939 he immigrated to the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine, where he worked as a head teacher in Ramat Gan. In 1943 he was appointed director of the education department of the city and had that position until 1952. He was from 1951 to 1977 member of the Knesset, 1951-1961 the General Zionists, from 1961 to 1965 the Miflaga Liberalit Jisra'elit, 1965-1974, while the Gachal of 15 December 1969 to August 6, 1970 Israeli Communications Minister, then from 1974 to 1977 member of the Likud.
