Binyamin Mintz

Benjamin Mintz (Hebrew בִּנְיָמִין מִינץ, also Binyamin Mintz, born January 12, 1903 in Łódź, † May 30, 1961 ) was an Israeli politician and Postmaster General.

Life

Mintz studied at the Hasidic Gerschule and was a member of the youth movement of the Agudat Jisra'el. He made his aliyah in 1925 in the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine, where he worked on construction sites and as a printer.

In 1933 he became a member of Poalei Agudat Jisra'el and then a member of the Mo'etzet Hamedina HaSmanit (Hebrew מועצת המדינה הזמנית; Provisional Council of State). In the parliamentary elections in Israel 1949, he was on the election list of HaChasit haDatit haMe'uchedet. In the years 1951, 1955 and 1959, he was re-elected. On July 17, 1960, he was appointed by David Ben- Gurion to the Postmaster General and held that post until his death in May 1961. The naming of the town, founded in 1962 Jad Benjamin ( Yad Binyamin ) was performed in honor of Benjamin Mintz.
