Sid Ganis

Sidney " Sid " Ganis ( born January 8, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York City ) is an American film producer and actor.

Short Biography

Already as a teenager worked Ganis as an errand boy and office assistant for the U.S. press agent Lee Solters, who in turn had worked among others in a period of 26 years for Frank Sinatra. In collaboration with George Lucas Ganis later founded the film production company Lucasfilm, the Vice President, he was for many years. Later he moved to the two known studios Columbia and Paramount, both of which he served as president in the 1980s or early 1990s. From 1991 to 1996 Ganis sat in the marketing department of Sony Pictures Entertainment. Since 1999, Ganis also sits on the board of the publisher Marvel Comics.

In September 1996 he founded Out of the Blue ... Entertainment, a studio that specializes in the production of film comedies such as Big Daddy (1999) and Mr. Deeds ( 2002). Much like Alfred Hitchcock in his films Ganis took over in his films produced from time to time a small supporting role or had a cameo.

Sid Ganis ' good reputation, but also his experiences, he has collected film marketing in the field, came to his benefit in 2005 when he was elected president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. By 2009, he was the one who organized the ceremony Oscar ceremonies annually, and who was responsible for the smooth running of the ceremonies. In 2009, he was replaced by Tom Sherak in his office.

Ganis is a Democrat and in 2004 was campaign aides of U.S. presidential candidate John Kerry. Little is known about the private life of film producer. He is married to the film producer and charity Lady Nancy Hult.
