Skyways Express AB was a Swedish regional airline based in Linköping.

History

The origin of Skyways Express goes back to the year 1940, when the couple Thuring founded an airline company called Avia. Avia dealt since 1945 with taxi, postal and agricultural flights. In 1976, the company was sold to the Gotland entrepreneur Nils Björkman and Lennart Gustavsson. 1984 Avia was taken over by the shipping company Gotlandsbolaget. 1989 merged Avia and Wages ( an airline from Salenia ). In 1993, after the complete takeover by Salenia, the company was renamed Skyways.

By 1995 Skyways developed into the largest domestic airline in Sweden, with a fleet of 13 Saab 340 and Fokker F50 3. In 1997, Skyways the majority shareholder of Highland Air and their route network. In the same year the cooperation with Scandinavian Airlines began.

After buying the Swedish Airborne in 1998, SAS took over a share of 25 % of Salenia. Following the purchase of Air Express in 1999, Skyways Group consisted of four airlines, flying to 35 destinations. Following the purchase of Flying Enterprise in 2000, the airlines were merged to Skyways Express AB, the company is located at 72.7 % owned by Salenia, as well as to 25% by SAS Scandinavian Airlines and 2.3% of Janus.

In April 2011 it was announced that Skyways Express has bought the airline rivals City and will fully integrate them. By the end of 2011, the entire fleet was acquired, also the site of City Airline was set.

Skyways Express and its subsidiary City Airline reported on May 22 at 2012 bankruptcy and stopped the operation.

Objectives

Skyways offered by their home base at Stockholm- Arlanda Airport flights to numerous destinations within Sweden, these are as of August 2010 Borlänge, Halmstad, Jönköping, Karlstad Kiruna Kristianstad, Örnsköldsvik, Oskarshamn, Visby, Växjö and Røros in Norway.

In addition, partnerships were with SAS, Blue1, Widerøe, Air Baltic, Estonian Air and Finnair.
