Slobodan Kačar

Slobodan Kačar ( born September 15, 1957 in Perućica at Jajce, Republic of Bosnia, Yugoslavia ) is a former Yugoslavian boxer of Serbian nationality.

Amateur

Slobodan Kačar is an ethnic Serb and began in 1972 with the boxes. As an amateur, he had a record of 241 victories in only 9 defeats. It was founded in 1974 Yugoslavian junior champion at lightweight, and 1975 Yugoslavian Vice welterweight champion. 1977 and 1978 he was Yugoslav champion in the middleweight division, and in 1980 Yugoslavian champion in the light heavyweight division.

In 1976 he was Balkan Champion (U -20) in the half- middleweight, 1977 Balkan middleweight champion and 1979 Balkan champion in the light heavyweight division. Also in 1979, he won the 8th Mediterranean Games in the light heavyweight division.

In 1977 he took part in the middleweight division at the 22nd European Championships in Germany, where he, however, in the quarterfinals later gold medalist Leonid Shaposhnikov narrowly lost on points.

At the 2nd World Championship 1978 in Serbia, he won the bronze medal in the middleweight division. He only lost in the semifinals of the later gold medalist from Cuba, José Gómez.

However, the highlight of his career was undoubtedly his Olympic title in the light heavyweight division at the 22th Summer Olympic Games in Moscow. He defeated in the second round while Michael Nassoro from Tanzania, in the quarterfinals David Kvachadze from the Soviet Union in the semifinals Herbert belly from the GDR and in the finale Skrzecz Paweł from Poland. He was so after Mate Parlov (1972 ), only the second Yugoslav Olympic champion in boxing.

For 1980, he was named the Golden ribbon ( Zlatna značka ) awarded as " Yugoslav Sportsman of the Year ".

Professional

Kačar in 1983 in Italy professional. He won his first 20 fights in a row, including 12 by knockout. Already in his third fight he beat the later, more times Italian champion Mwehu Beya by knockout win. On February 8, 1984, he defeated the eventual winners (EBU ) Yawe Davis on points. On August 8, 1985, he won on points against the two-time world title challenger Ramzi Hassan.

On 21 December 1985 he was given the chance at the world title of the IBF light heavyweight. When his opponent, the former WBA champion Eddie Muhammad was selected, who won each of his last 10 fights. Kačar won the fight in Pesaro over 15 rounds on points, and thus became the first world champion boxer of Serbian nationality.

However, he lost the title in his first title defense on September 6, 1986 in Las Vegas by TKO in the 5th round to Bobby Czyz. After following points victory against Danny Lawford, he lost on May 15, 1987 compared Blaine Logsdon and then ended his career.

In 2009 he was guest of honor at the international boxing tournament " 9 Radovan Bisic Memorial "is loaded into Bosnia. There he caused a scandal when he sent the Serbian boxer Faruk Ajvazi at the start, which was not selected by the coach of the Serbian national team for this tournament. Relationship

His older brother Tadija Kačar was also an amateur boxer, won the 1976 Olympic silver medal in the light middleweight and in 1978 became vice-world champion in the light heavyweight division.

Slobodan Kačar is also the uncle of the soccer players Gojko Kačar from Hamburg sports club.
