Slow Motion is the 11th and so far last studio album by British Pop-/Rockband Supertramp. In Europe, it seemed, almost three years after the live album "It Was the Best of Times " on 25 March 2002 and in North America it was only available by mail order from the Group's website from 23 April 2002. It was, particularly in Switzerland and in France, successfully.

Description

For the recording of the album "Slow Motion", the group went like so: From its classic lineup were still Rick Davies ( harmonica, keyboards, vocals ), John Helliwell ( woodwinds, saxophone) and Bob Siebenberg (drums) on it. In addition joined again Mark Hart (keyboards, guitars and backing vocals; since 1993 member of the band Crowded House ), in contrast to previous works, sang no songs by vocals, Cliff Hugo (bass guitar), Lee Thornburg ( trombone, trumpet, background vocals) and Carl Verheyen ( guitars). As mentioned on the 1999 live album the band was supplemented by Jesse Siebenberg ( percussion, background vocals).

The songs, all sang Rick Davies were written by Davies, except " Goldrush ", which called in the early days of the band during the creation of her debut album, " Supertramp " (1970), emerged and by Davies (composition and lyrics) and Richard Palmer - James ( text ) comes from. The latter was (such as Davies) one of the four founding members of Supertramp and joined the group recently with the emergence of their first album as a copywriter and also as musicians.

As on the previous studio album " Some Things Never Change " (1997 ) provided Supertramp with "Slow Motion" again a slightly jazzy and also more bluesy style of music with some jazzy - funky accents from where Davies ' staccato electric piano game - as in the title song " Slow Motion" and "Broken Hearted " - remained as the band's trademark. Some songs, like the one with the expressive voice of Davies prevailed " Tenth Avenue Breakdown", with just under nine minutes the longest piece on the album, and the slightly shorter "Dead Man's Blues," which included extensive instrumental passages with brass and electric piano sounds and such as " Bee in Your Bonnet ", interesting rhythm and tempo changes. Bluesy works are " Over You" and "A Sting in the Tail". Hit- character gained no song.

With a few songs on the recording-wise good album " Slow Motion" and many Supertramp classics in their luggage, the band went in 2002 to "One More For The Road Tour", but from which emerged not a live album. A follow-up studio album is not yet in sight.
