Paris is the first live album by British Pop-/Rockband Supertramp. It was recorded during the tour, " Breakfast in America ", which was named after the published in 1979, the same studio LP, on 29 November 1979 in Paris ( France). As with this last album the group acted in concert, and thus when recording the double album in its classic lineup - for the fifth time in the band's career. The record was released in September 1980 and sold in Europe and the United States very well.

Description

The live album Paris results from the Tour " Breakfast in America ", during the Super Tramp gave 108 concerts. The band appeared in their classic line-up - Rick Davies, John Helliwell, Roger Hodgson, Bob Siebenberg and Dougie Thomson - including those States: France, Austria, Spain and USA.

Paris was recorded at the first of three concerts ( 29 and 30 November and 1 December 1979 ), the Supertramp were in the 1975 to 1983 existing concert hall Pavillon de Paris, a former slaughterhouse in the district of La Villette in the French capital Paris.

Meanwhile presented Supertramp many songs from their classic period of 1974 until 1979. All songs were written by Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson, who sang their works each self. There the entire concert was recorded, but the case played songs Give a Little Bit, Goodbye Stranger, Even in the Quietest Moments ..., downstream, Just a Normal Day and Another Man 's Woman were not integrated in Paris to the concert on a to be able to press double LP. Thus are on the live album with the exception of If Everyone Was Listening all the songs of the plate Crime of the Century (1974 ), three of the album Crisis? What Crisis? (1975 ), two of the plate even in the Quietest Moments ... (1977 ), three of the album Breakfast in America (1979) and also the song You Started Laughing. This piece was originally the B-side of the Single Lady (from the 1975 feature - plate Crisis? What Crisis? ) Published.

Video republishing

The impressive to Paris captured concert atmosphere with many Supertramp classics - including a live version of the orchestral Fool 's Overture - Helliwell as master of ceremonies and the euphoric concert audience at that time was also recorded on 16mm film. However, the film remained in the archives of the band. The Paris film was later lost for many years, until 2006 a copy in the barn of Supertramp drummer Bob Siebenberg was found in Northern California. The film roles were in a disastrous state and were partly contaminated with cow dung. The tapes were sent to the digital restoration and backup to the company ' Cups ' N Strings (studios ) " in Santa Monica, California. Under the supervision of Supertramp's sound engineer Russell Pope, the recordings could be successfully processed. Then the film came to London, where Peter Henderson took over the mixing of audio tracks. The video material was sent to Peter Clifton, director of the Led Zeppelin concert film The Song Remains the Same ( 1973) to New Zealand for further processing. On August 24, 2012, the film finally appeared on DVD and Blu -ray titled Live In Paris '79.

The release of the DVD was done solely at the instigation of Supertramp musician Dougie Thomson, Bob Berg and John Helliwell Seven and without the consent of the song writers Davies and Hodgson, as last reported in an open letter on his website. Hodgson, the envisioned a better quality presentation of the Paris - concert talks, based on the appearance of the DVD of " deception " and of " illegal and immoral methods " of his three former band members who are not " records agreements " to his view and had fought for the publication with legal tricks.
