Šmarje pri Jelšah

Šmarje pri Jelšah ( German: St.Marein at Erlach stone) is a municipality in the Spodnja Štajerska region in Slovenia.

In the overall community consisting of 77 villages and hamlets 9908 people live. The main town Šmarje pri Jelšah alone has 160 inhabitants. The municipality is located in the valley of the river Šmarski creek between Voglanjsko and Zgornjesotelsko. On the sunlit hillsides of vineyards. By this wine region, leads the Wine Road Šmarje - Virštanj.

As one of the most important baroque monuments of the country, the pilgrimage church of Saint Roch counts on Calvary in Šmarje pri Jelšah. The road to the church is lined with 14 Stations of the Cross.
